Back Pressure Control Manifolds
Used to set the pressure in a loop, usually on a boiler loop where the oil pressure is determined by the burner. The pressure needs to be controlled throughout the firing (flow) rate of the burner. Also these back pressure control manifolds are also found at the end of a loop that provides oil to a day tank. The pressure is set to make sure that oil does flow into the day tank instead of just flowing past the day tank. The valve is used to maintain a set pressure no matter how many day tanks are calling for oil.

Control Panels
Control panels are available in a number of configurations to meet the requirements of the applications.

Simple control panels make use of relay logic to control a pair of pumps. Control panels are manufactured to UL508 requirements.
Typical front panels with alarm lights, “Hand-off-auto” switches for two pumps and a lead pump selector switch.
Inside of the control panels include circuit breakers, moton starters, and relays along with field terminations.

Duplex Strainers
Duplex strainers are ideal for applications where the requirement for a continuous supply of oil which does not permit interruption of the flow for the routine cleaning of the strainer baskets.

• 180 degree handle movement to switch baskets
• Handle blocks access to the basket that is in use to protect against inadvertent opening,
• and provides positive visual indication of the active strainer
• There is not restriction to flow as the handle is moved from one position to the other,
• the handle can even be left in the intermediate position
• Covers are sealed with O-ring gaskets with quick opening bolts for easy gasket access
• 200 psi one piece design cast iron bodies
• Standard gaskets are 3/64″ perforated with 40, 60, 100 and 200 mesh baskets available as options
• Consult factory on sizes and end connections as some are available in screwed connections
• and some are available in flanged connections. Sizes range from 3/4″ to 4″ connections

Extractor Fitting:

The extractor fitting is used to allow the removal of the foot valve easily from the top of the tank. These fittings will allow single or double poppet foot valves up to 1.5″ in size to be used. The fitting will fit a 4″ NPT opening in the top of the tank with a 3″ line connection to the pump set. The top port is plugged with a 4″ plug when in normal use. The body is cast iron (epoxy painted) with a brass cage to hold the drop tube using a Buna-N O-ring.

Fire Valves
A fire valve is used to keep oil from being moved into a room or area where temperatures are extremelyelevated most likely due to a fire. They are typically placed on the inside wall of the room to be protected.

The fuse link will melt at 165 degrees F and is UL and FM listed. Valve body is ductile iron.Available in screwed connection (FNPT) or flanged.

As an option an end switch can be added to the valve to provide positive feedback that the valve is open.

Flow Control Manifolds
Used to control the flow of fuel oil to selected devices. The most typical application is to control the flow of oil from a pump set to one of several generator day tanks.

• Three valve isolation with bypass for easy maintenance
• Optional sight flow indicator and/or flow switch for proof of flow
• Optional Y-strainer ahead of the solenoid valves for protection of the valves and a spin on filter for cleaning the fuel. With these devices an optional differential pressure gauge and indicator can be added to trigger an alarm when the strainer needs cleaning or the filter changed.
• Optional orientation for the dual solenoid, can be either in series (normal configuration) or in parallel with additional isolation valves (As shown below)
• The assembly is completely prewired with a termination box for easy electrical terminations

Flow Switches
Flow switches are used in fuel oil systems to provide proof of flow from the pumps. They are the main indicator when it is time to start a backup pump on a duplex pump set. The flow switch electrical contacts are completely sealed from the fluid flow, and is actuated by a pair of magnets.

Foot Valves  Foot valves are designed to keep the suction line between the tank and the pump set primed by preventing the oil from flowing back to the main tank.

Foot valves are designed to keep the suction line between the tank and the pump set primed by preventing the oil from flowing back to the main tank. Foot valves provide a higher level of protection as compared to a check valve that may be located closer to the pump set. If the prime is lost the pump will have to work with extra effort to re-establish prime. This not only affects the life span of the pump but will also affect the reliability of the overall fuel oil system to function when called upon.

Single Poppet Foot Valves
Brass bodies with a metal seat for long life. Each foot valve includes a screen suction screen to protect the valve.
Double Poppet Foot Valves
Provides twice the protection comparedto a single poppet foot valve. Otherwise they have the same characteristics of the single poppet units.

Leak Switches
Leak switches come in two configurations. For interstitial space leak detection, the probe will be mounted from the top of the tank.It will be identical to the multi-level probe described above exceptwith only one float at the bottom. These are usually mountedwithin two inches of the bottom of the tank.

In other configuration a leak switch is mounted in the base pan area of a pump set or filtration set to detect an oil spill. These are usually directly wired to controllers mounted on the pump set.

Level Switches
In fuel oil applications fuel is typically stored in day tanks, the controlof the level in these tanks are handled by level switches. Typically thelevel probe will have several level switches mounted on a single rod. Typical switches are used for:

• Turning on and off a supply pump to refill a tank
• Closing the supply valve when a tank has reached the “full” level
• High level alarm
• Turn on a return pump to protect the tank from overfilling
• Low level alarm that may also turn on a backup pump
• A very low alarm that is usually used to turn off the• generator to protect the generator
• As an option a temperature sensor can be built into the• sensor to protect the generator from overly hot fuel oil

In some short tanks such as base tanks located under thegenerator these level switches may not fit on one rod, therefore multiple probes are used.

Specifications:
• 2″ NPT tank fitting, but others are available
• Brass Stem
• 316SS Floats
• 240V DC/AC Switch contact rating
• Cast Aluminum J-Box with terminal strip
• Individual pair of contacts for each switch

High.Level Switches
For large main tank which typically have continuous level monitoring(displayed in gallons), a simple level switch is typically used as a backup up to stop filling of the main tank. These switches are typically set at between 90 and 95% of full. So on a 12 foot diameter tank these singlelevel switch probes will go into the tank only 12 to 18 inches.

Dry.Pump Protection Switch
A level switch can be mounted in a pipe well before a pump to actas an interlock to protect the pump from running dry. With no oil inthe pipe before the pump the float will open the circuit and thepump will not be allowed to run.

Overflow Level Switches
Level switches can also be fitted into the vent of a tank, if the oil wasto raise to a level where it overflows into the vent the level sensorwill sense oil and act as an interlock to protect from the oil fromoverflowing and possible going out the vents.

Overfill Alarm Station
Typically near the fill port an Overfill Alarm Station is installed. This control station is used to alert the delivery truck driver that the tank is full and that tank filling should stop immediately. The panel will include a red light for each tank being filled and an alarm horn. The driver will be able to silence the alarm, but the red high level alarm light will stay lit till the high alarm is cleared, normally by using some of the oil in the main tank. Normally the high level is set at 90%, depending on the installation. The Overfill Alarm Station is only looking for an alarm contact closure to sound the alarm. The red light will clear once this contact opens. Also included is an alarm test button that when pressed will sound the alarm horn and light the red light.

With some systems the overfill alarm station functions are built into the fill box described above, but in others where the fill port may be just an opening in the top of a buried tank, this overfill alarm station functions by itself and is located within sight of the driver.

Overfill Prevention Valves
An Overfill Prevention Valve is installed at the fill port of a storage tank.Used in a pressurized tight fill application, the valve helps prevent tank overfills by closing when the liquid level reaches a preset warning level (90-95% full). The valve is installed on a standard 6″ NPT male connection and has a built-in bleed hole that allows the fill hose pressure to be relieved afterthe valve closes. This bleed hole also provides anti-siphon protection for the valve. When installed to manufacturer requirements, the Overfill Protection Valve caneliminate hazardous liquid spills.

All models are supplied with an adaptor to mount aluminium drop tubes.
A test mechanism is also sold separately. The test mechanism allows a technician to pull on the test line at any time during the filling process to actuate the float and stop the fill. This allows a technician to verify the valve is working properly.

Pressure Gauges
Available in either 4″ or 2.5″ sizes. These gauges are bottom connected to an isolation valve with a sealed stainless steel case and shatterproof heat resistant polycarbonate lenses. The case is liquid filled for dampening of pressure pulsations and vibration. The mechanism uses a 316L stainless steel bourdon tube.

• NEMA 4x case
• White aluminum dial with black lettering with black pointer
• Glycerine filled

Relief Valves
Relief Valves are designed to relieve pressure at a set pressure. In typical fuel oil applications they are used at the outlet of positive displacement pumps. In case a valve is closed downstream from the pump the relief valve will open and allow the fuel to be circulated back to the tank the pump is pumping from. In some applications where fuel may come from a number of tanks an internal relief valve is used on the pump head. But this should only be used in those cases as the fuel will circulate in the internal relief valve and overheat over time and possible damage the pump.

The relief valves are to be used in an emergency application only and are not designed to regulate a set pressure. These valves are all bronze with pressure tight caps that are suitable for back pressures of 50 psig. This is important on applications where the oil maybe trapped in the outlet line above the valve. This will protect from oil leaking out the adjustment head of the valve.

Both inlet and outlet connections are integral with the body to permit easy inspection and servicing withoutdisconnecting piping. Beveled seats are lapped for optimum performance with stainless steel spring for corrosion resistance.

The set pressure can be set between 1 and 300 psi. Temperature range is -60 to 406, but valve should be protectedfrom freezing in case water was to collect in the valve over time.

Simplex Strainers
Simplex strainers are used to remove large debris from the fuel oil line. These are usually installed just before a pump or an automatic valve to protect these devices from harm. Strainers are also found on the outlet of pump sets to remove debris before traveling further down the fuel oil system. Simplex strainers make use of a heavy duty basket strainer.

These strainers are designed to allow for quick opening for inspection and cleaning. The baskets are large to allow for a large surface area to catch material with minimal pressure loss. The baskets are designed to allow for material to be held in the basket without affecting the operation of the strainer.

Tank Fill Equipment Fill Box

The fill box is used to allow the delivery truck driver a place to connect the supply hose at the side of a building. The box is an attractive addition to the building and is available either in painted carbon steel or stainless steel. The box includes a lock to protect from unintended access to the fill port.

The fill box is available in two configurations, first an “in-wall” version where the fill box is placed in a wall. The edges of the fill box include a 2 inch flange around the outside of the box to provide an attractive installation. The second version is for installing on a wall where mounting ears are used to secure the box to the wall.

Generally these fill boxes are used to fill only one tank, but a single fill box can be used with tank selector valves to use a single connection port to fill several tanks. Other configurations can include multiple fill port connections in the box to feed several tanks. The size of the box is modified to fit the needs of the application.

For spill protection the bottom of the box includes a 5 gallon spill area with a drain connection to removed larger spills. The box is supplied with a “ship loose” cam and groove connection with a dust cover. This connection is installed on the end of the fill pipe which can be brought into the fill box at any point to meet the needs of the installation.

The controls are typically mounted in a second enclosure mounted next to the fill box. These controls can be very simple overfill alarms or they can be complicated system with tank selector controls, tank level displays in gallons. If the controls are to be mounted inside the fill box they are of explosion proof design as the fill box can be mounted such that it can be in direct sunlight and can become hot enough to generate dangerous vapor.

Tank Selector Valves

Purpose

Tank Selector Valves are used to “parallel” or duplex two pieces of pipeline equipment in continuous flow without shut off of either one. Examples include duplexing of two filters or tanks. These rugged units are time tested for many years in a wide variety of fluid applications.

Application

Transfer valves with threaded NPT, SAE-J1926, or ANSI-B16.11 socket weld ports are available in 3/4 through 3 inch sizes in various pressure ratings. They provide a simple, cost effective way to duplex flow equipment for applications where continuous flow must be maintained, with no flow interruption for down-side servicing.

Model 72 series transfer valves provide a consistent design for many sizes and pressure ratings with “same-side” orientation of the single inlet and outlet ports. Other models with “straight-through” inlet and outlet ports on opposite sides are also available. These transfer valves are furnished in both standard and high pressure models. Flanged models are also available. Internal channels are 100% full-flow, having the same cross-sectional area as the equivalent pipe size.

Materials of construction include cast iron, carbon steel or stainless steel bodies and covers. Valve plugs are of cast iron, bronze or stainless steel. Special valve plugs can be furnished in other materials.

The valve handle guard indicates the side in use. The standard valve handle swings overt he inlet port. Special reverse valve handles that swing over the opposite side can also be furnished. The adjustable locking flange holds the valve plug on its seat on standard models. An optional lifting jack can also be provided to lift the tapered valve plug off its seat for ease in valve turning in rough service. There are no internal linkages involved. A separate external gland is provided to allow easy access to stem packing without completed is assembly, even while in service. A drain plug is provided in the valve chamber.

Adjustable, Tapered Valve Plug

The tapered valve plug design provides inherent compensation for wear, temperature changes and other operating variations. Metal to metal contact of sealing surfaces prolong the life of the valve, even in rough service. No special seals or seats are necessary to restore valves to their original condition. Optional surface treatments can be furnished on valve plugs to extend life and improve sealing characteristics.

Vacuum Breaker
Vacuum Breakers provide effective protection against unwanted vacuum in the fuel oil piping. This is typicallyfound on a fuel system where the oil is pumped up to a much higher elevation. Once the pumping has stopped the oil will tend to want to return to the main tank. This can cause large vacuum in the supply line which could causeproblems. A vacuum breaker is typically installed in the line at the high point.
